My Rabbitry Binder

So I got this idea from 4 Kings Rabbitry to show you what's in my rabbitry binder.
All the papers came from the 4 Kings Rabbitry website. Click Here

So here is my binder, it has horses all over it, obliviously. I made this binder a long time ago and never had a use for it until now. Here's the cover. It has a pocket on front for a pen or anything you might need.

As you can see, the binder isn't too thick..... yet.

The "title page" You can put business cards or membership cards in this plastic sleeve too.

The standard of perfection of course!

Left: 2nd page on standard, Right: Breed pamphlet, you can give these out to new buyers.

You can use the 31 day chart so you can easily see when your does will be due. You just find the date bred, and then look to the column on the right and that is your due date.

Use the breeding chart to see if your litter will be junior or senior at the next show.

This paper is so you can keep track of who has been De-wormed.

This is where my buck pedigrees will go and as you can see, where my does pedigrees will go as well. I still have not received my pedigrees.

Use this paper to record show results for each individual rabbit.

Use this paper to record your does breeding dates and if they palpated + or -.

Use this paper to record how many sales you have had, where each bunny is, and to do follow ups.

Plenty of extra plastic sleeves and 2 more dividers if I ever need them.

ENJOY!!

Toys and Such

Some people seem to neglect the importance of cage accessories. When I picked up Teddy and Flynn, I noticed they only had a water bowl and a J-feeder in their cages. When I got them home, they had all sorts of things in their cage. They just didn't know how to act. They still haven't figured out what hay and toys are. They won't touch either.

They also like their old food better and will pick it out of my feed because I have them mixed at the moment to help with the transition, but that's off topic.

Make sure you have something your buns can play with, or at least chew on. It will really enrich their lives and bring out the best in their personality. I am noticing an improvement in Teddy's personality ever since he  started exercising outside. Rabbits are an active species. They need to exercise and have something to do. I can not stress enough the importance or playtime. If you can't let them play outside, let them play inside. So that's all I really have to say on the matter, enjoy these bunny pictures.
"Mom, this is not funny."

This is random but it makes me smile.

Random fact of the day: I think a sun flower is going to be our rabbitry flower. LOL!!

Two New Bucks!

We got 2 new bucks from a friend last night. BA's Teddy and BA's Flynn. They are adorable!

Teddy
(Black ear spots are scars from a fight.)

Flynn
(spots from birth)

Teddy is by far my favorite! He has the sweetest personality and has an exceptional body. Flynn on the other hand.... needs anger management classes. He lunges if you open his cage door. I bought him for his size and his eye bands. I think these two are wonderful additions to my herd. Teddy wins against Flynn conformation wise. I will have to look at Cookies again. I think he has improved with age, plus he looks amazing in Winter.

Teddy is on my lap at the moment,  He really enjoys snuggles. I think Flynn needs to sit in Time-out for a while and think about how bad lunging is. I know I will get some nicely tempered babies out of him. That's how to BA line is. Sometimes the nicest babies come from the meanest parents.

Solid vs. Wire Floors

I'm just going to get to the point here. I know many people who think wire bottoms are cruel. But if you think about it, would you rather sit on wire or your own... droppings. lol Also, wood will rot and possibly grow mold from being constantly coated in urine making a solid floor even more unsanitary and I might say... cruel.

I think as long as they are a dwarf breed they are fine. If not, they should have a foot rest or a block of wood to sit on. The block of wood serves two purposes, 1) something to chew on 2) something to sit on.

I have noticed that on "Rabbitry Tour" videos, people get criticized for having wire floors. I for one, can't stand these comments and don't even try to educate the public anymore. The only way I will share my opinion is if it is asked for. If they try to fight with me about it, all I say is "You asked for my opinion, there you have it." and walk away.

You may notice for some odd reason this is a very touchy subject in the pet world. Most people are to stuck in their ways to even consider what you try to teach them. Therefore, I keep to myself on the subject in most cases. However I had a recent event that made me very irritated involving a very stubborn girl who would not stop emailing me about how cruel it was to have wire floors. I made sure to block her and I hope I don't have to deal with those people anymore.

Enough with that, so I am currently talking with my friend that lives a few minutes from me and I think we are making some small progress on getting some new stock. We will see!

Have a super fantastic day!!!!

Dwarf Hotot difficulties

Anyone who has raised Dwarf Hotots knows what a struggle they are. You often have to go out of state to find some good stock which is something I am dealing with right now. I know of two breeders in Utah. One of them breeds for pets and another who just doesn't really know what they are doing. By that I mean they don't know Dwarf Hotot conformation and they rely on the judge to choose who stays and who goes in their herd. I am likely having hotots transported back from convention to get quality rabbits.
They also have specific markings like some other breeds which is always a struggle. They are usually not the best mothers either. They can have trouble excepting their babies. A lot of lines have max factors and  of course, peanuts (common among dwarf breeds).
They are known as "the jaws of the rabbit world" because people assume they like to bite. I have noticed with my friends line that the babies are nippy when they are young and grow out of it with age. They are like toddlers. They use their mouth to explore things.
There are many other difficulties as there are with all breeds but I can't go on forever about this.

They also have many fun things about them:
-adorable personalities
-some appear as "all head, no body" which is cute
-Small little bunnies
-snuggly
-etc.

This is Cookies current website picture. It has been to dark outside to get a good posed picture of him. We have re-done our website, tell us what you think.

2012 Goals

So even though I don't have my rabbitry running quite yet, I am going to share some goals for getting my rabbitry off to a good start.

1. Purchase hollands from Allan Ormand

2. Build hanging cages for my first rabbitry cages and expand as needed

3. Breed the hotots in July or August

4. Bring some LRR Juniors to a show at the end of the year

5. Purchase Evans software

6. (Possibly) See if I could arrange transport from the ARBA convention in October so I can purchase some gorgeous bunnies from a friend.

That's all I could think of at the moment. I might add more later.

Cookies is doing great! Sorry about the nasty cage walls. We got rid of the buck that was causing that.
